This holiday home is situated in a perfect location for exploring the Peloponnese
area of Greece. It is in a quiet area with an away from it all feel with mountain and sea views yet it is only 10 minutes
by car to the nearest beach and Kalamata town.
Kalamata itself is a cosmopolitan town with plenty of restaurants,
museums, cinemas, theatres and of course lots of shops to suit all tastes. There is also a marina and a castle in Kalamata
town. For local colour, a must would be to visit to the large fruit and vegtable market held in the old part of
town on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
This part of the Peloponnese is perfect walking country and there are numerous
published guides to walking routes in the area. There are plenty of beaches and places to visit within easy driving distance,
including the Mani with the popular resort of Stoupa, the venetian castles of Methoni and Koroni and the Byzantine city
of Mystras. The ancient site of Olympia is also a day trip away. There is a popular taverna less than a kilometre from
the house.
We have lived in Greece since 2002 and live in a separate house next
door to the holiday home so we can give advice on places of interest in the area and are on hand if needed. We are
also keen walkers and have explored a large part of the surrounding area.
This is an unspoilt area of greece and the location of this holiday villa
is ideally sited to visit the many castles, byzantine churches, archeological sites, beaches and the many other places of
interest in the area.
The climate here is generally hot dry and sunny from May through
to the end of September. March and April tend to have many warm and sunny days with an abundance of wild flowers.
The autumn months of October and November are still warm and usually have the occasional thunderstorm. The
sea is usually warm for swimming from June through to October - sometimes November. The winter months of December
to February can still have many warm dry days but can get quite chilly in the evenings.
